Exploring what public engagement is?

Wondering why public engagement is so important in the higher education sector?

Thinking about how you are going to get started?

Then this interactive workshop is for you!

Join this workshop to learn about different methods of engagement, knowing your target audiences, and how to tailor your engagement activities to them. We will also explore the role that public engagement plays in our society and what it means to you as a researcher!

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • The what: explore the term public engagement, think about what public engagement means to you
  • The why: explore the benefits of public engagement or society and to your as a researcher
  • The how: think about your target audiences, what impact you are trying to achieve, and explore who can help you to take the first steps in your next public engagement project

Presenter information: Dr Sophie Morris (she/her)

Dr Sophie Morris has over 10 years of experience in public engagement and is an accredited educator in the higher education sector. After completing a PhD in Cancer Immunotherapies Sophie went on to develop her skills in science communication, public engagement and research impact in various roles. Current work includes public engagement consultancy projects and designing and delivering public engagement training for different organisations across the UK and beyond. Sophie also works as an independent evaluator for Universities and third sector organisations.
